Clearwater’s new members’ lounge
The new Members’ lounge at The Clubhouse at Clearwater has not only hit the mark with golfers – it has won a prestigious building award.The lounge has been placed top of the Tourism and Leisure section of the Canterbury Registered Builders 2007 Commercial Project Awards. The 250 sq m facility, which was finished in time for the HSBC NZ PGA championships in February, was designed by Queenstown architect Michael Wyatt and built by Christchurch-based Leighs Construction. The lounge has several superb design features. These include several Canterbury stone fireplace surrounds, internal and external detailed timber flooring and ceiling, and a striking leather and copper-clad bar. The use of split rock, feature stone walls and natural timbers continues the theme of the rest of the resort. “It provides excellent views of the 18th green and down the fairway, which was ideal during the HSBC NZ PGA. We were able to use it as a corporate facility and as many as 120 people lunched there every day.Other pleasing aspects were an extensive decking with a louvred roof in four sections so that it can be used in all weathers, and large changing rooms. Two gas fires keep members and their guests comfortable while another four gas fires inside ensure warmth all year round.

One of Sydney's leading clubs, The Lakes plays host to the annual Greg Norman International (one of the richest events on the Australasian PGA Tour). Titirangi Conceived in 1914, Titirangi was privileged in 1926 to obtain the services of Dr. Alister MacKenzie (1870-1934) to redesign the course. Dr MacKenzie, designer of Augusta National, Royal Melbourne, Cypress Point and many outstanding courses liked what he saw. The ground was "exceptionally well adapted for golf, undulating, without being hilly".Today the course is consistently rated in New Zealand's top five courses.
